Alvern Bowers

Alvern Bowers, 71, of Houston, Texas received her wings on Saturday April 8, 2017.  She was born on November 9, 1945 in Arcadia, Texas to William Sr. and Verna Mae Bowers.  She attended school in Hitchcock, Texas and graduated from Lorraine Crosby in 1963.  Upon graduation she attended Texas Southern University.

She is preceded in death by her parents William Sr. and Verna Mae Bowers, two brothers William M. Bowers Jr. and Freddie Lee Bowers, one daughter Estella Vern Bowers.  Alvern was employed with Methodist Hospital for over 30 years until her retirement.

Alvern gave her life to Christ at an early age and she was currently a member of Good Life Bible Fellowship Church under the leadership of Rev. Floyd R. Johnson in Houston, Texas.  Alvern is survived by her sons Joel, Patrick (Khrystal) and Dexter (Chelsea) Bowers and one daughter Nakia Bowers; one aunt Rosie Bowers and sixteen grandchildren: Aisha, Avery, Kiana, Micah, MaKaleb, Darrell, Rayven, McKinnley, Patrick II, Paxton, Samiyah, Dasia, Daija, Dexter Jr., Zaccheus, Elexia, and Ryan.  Alvern is also survived by three great grandchildren: Jayden, Aaliyah and Averlee. She is also survived by two brothers Leonard (Lillian) and Lewis (Carolyn) Bowers.  Alvern has one god child Chad Jonson and devoted cousins Diane Steward and Fay Bowers and very dedicated friends DeLois Dargins, Eleanor Spells, Margaret Brightmon-Mach, Joy Hill and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.  Alvern’s family would like to extend a very special thank you to Pastor Calvin Haywood Sr. and Mrs. Katina Haywood.

There will be a public visitation held Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 9 am followed by a chapel service  at 11 am  located at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church located at 6609 Fairwood Road, Hitchcock, Texas 77563.  Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Bay Area Funeral Directors.
