Bro. Lorenzo Charles Wardell Jr. 1917-2010 Mr. Lorenzo Charles Wardell, Jr, known as PaPa, was born to Lorenzo C. Wardell, Sr. and Minnie Ola Wardell on December 28th, 1917, in Galveston, Texas. Raised in Dickinson, Texas, Bro. Wardell moved to Galveston, Texas and married the late Ida Mae Wardell. Bro. Wardell then moved his family to Hitchcock in 1950 where he then joined Galilee Missionary Baptist Church and resided on Carver Drive until his death. Mr. Wardell was a Construction Worker in Galveston, Texas until his retirement. He was a proud member of the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully in the Brotherhood Ministry, Sanctuary Choir and Male Chorus until his health failed in early 2000. Bro. Wardell was also a member of the Grand Masonic Lodge No. 106 and worked with the Hitchcock Community Center for many years. In 2006 Bro. Wardell was honored by the City of Hitchcock with a Proclamation for Lorenzo Wardell Day. Mr. Wardell is preceded in death by his wife Ida Mae Wardell, parents, sisters Caldonia Bell, Myrtle Doris Martin, and Cora Lee Hanks, brothers Frank Wardell and George Wardell. He is survived by one child, Joyce Marie Williams Payne; one sister, Dora Mae Lewis, 3 grandchildren, Debra Ferguson (Rev. Arthur Ferguson), devoted grandson and caretaker Louis Armstrong Jr., Cheryl Armstrong, 7 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, 3 sister-in-laws, Robbie Allen, Esther Allen, Dorothy Thibodeaux and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Gaston Charles, Sr. 1934-2010 Gaston Charles, Sr. of Texas City, TX was born on July 5, 1934 to Sandus Charles, Sr. and Ella Charles of Ville Platte., LA. Gaston was preceded him in death. His parents; grandparents, Reme and Mary Slaughter; brother Herbert Charles and Andrus Charles; sister, Leffie Griffith and great grandson Agustine Uresti, Jr. Gaston accepted Christ at an early age under Rev. Curley Charles and was later a member of Progressive Missionary Baptist under the leadership of Rev. M. C. Bridges. Gaston worked and retired from Texas City Housing Authority. He was also a member of the Laborers Union Local 116. He especially loved spending time with his grand & great grandchildren. Mary Elizabeth Francis 1942-2010 Mary Elizabeth Francis received her reward of eternal rest on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City, Texas. She was born on the beautiful day of October 10, 1942 to Allen and Mary Wiltz in St. Martinville, LA. Mary was preceded in death by her husband James Francis Jr.; her parents, Allen and Mary Wiltz; sisters, Marie Little, Lorenza Wiltz, and Linda Wiltz. Phyllis Denise Mc Cardell 1955-2010 Phyllis Denise Mc Cardell passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on November 25, 2010. She was born in Galveston on April 7, 1955. Phyllis is preceded in death by her grandparents Theodore and Lea Birda Gee and Sam and Ollie Binder; father Thurman Edison. Special thanks to her First Baptist Church family and AMED hospice. Mildred Hare 1920-2010 Mildred Hare was born April 13, 1920 in Brownsville, TN to the union of the late Rev. Oscar and Hattie (Boyd) Averyheart, and is the last of six children. Mildred later moved to Chicago, Illinois where she met and married John Henry Hare, Sr. (who preceded her in death) and out of that union six of her children were born. two of her children Calvin Golden of Dalton, IL and one of her younger twin daughters, Denise Borders of Cincinnati, OH preceded her in death. Mildred later moved to Cincinnati, OH where she was a faithful member of the Metropolitan C.M.E. Church. Left to cherish her memory are her remaining children, John Henry Hare, Jr. (Tina) and Barry Hare (Sherrell) of Dickinson, TX, oldest twins, Shirley Madaris and Sherry Pugh, Darryl Hare and younger twin, Darlene Hare, all of Cincinnati, OH and two daughter-in-laws, Barbara and Er nestine of Illinois as well as 20 grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and loving extended family members. Mario Alberto Lopez 1955-2010 Mario Alberto Lopez, 55 of La Marque, TX passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord at Seabreeze Nursing Home in Texas City, TX. Mario was born on August 13, 1955 in Edinburg, Texas and lived in La Marque where he lived until the Lord called him home on November 20, 2010. Mario was loved by everyone he came in contact with. He loved the beach where he would spend hours with his dog Chico. He is preceded in death by his father Genaro C. Lopez. Mario will be dearly missed by his mother Germana Lopez; children Christopher Lopez and Elika Carlsen; three grand children; brothers and sisters, Rosa Sendejas, Alma Salazar, Genaro Lopez Jr. and David Lopez; his soul mate Arlene Acosta; a host of nieces, nephews, family and very close friend Roberto Garza. Robert Louis Cooper 1944-2010 Robert Cooper was born on May 22, 1944, in Wharton and moved to Texas City where he lived until the Lord called him home on November 10, 2010. Robert was loved by everyone he came in contact with and until his health failed he lived life to the fullest. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert S. and Helen Cooper, one son Freddie Taylor, brother Robert Sam Cooper Jr., granddaughter Ebony Jones. Lorene Scott Brown 1925-2010 Lorene Scott Brown was born December 14, 1925 in Grimes County, Texas to Charlie and Asalee Scott. Mrs. Brown, a loving housewife, mother and longtime resident of La Marque, Texas fell asleep in death on October 30, 2010 at Mainland Center Hospital in Texas City, Texas. She is preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband Robvester Brown; her son Thomas Earl Brown Sr.; two granddaughters, and seven siblings. Left to cherish her memories, are her children - Robert E. Brown (Valery), Mattie L. Brown, Shirley M. Tolden (Earl), and Earnest L. Victoria Jones Davis 1928-2010 Victoria Jones Davis, born June 10, 1928 to Irvin Jones and Marie Rogers, affectionately known as Madear, was called to be with our Lord on October 23, 2010. She is preceded in death by her parents, Irvin Jones and Ida Williams, daughter Irvin Marie Rogers and brothers Roosevelt Boone, Victor Jones, Perry Williams and Dave Williams. Charles Tolden 1958-2010 Charles Tolden, "Alley-Boo" 52, passed away October 16, 2010 in Galveston, TX. Charles was born on July 11, 1958 to Ruth E. Tolden and L.T. Sanders. He graduated from Texas City High School. "Alley-Boo" enjoyed playing cards, football and dominos. Charles is preceded in death by his mother and brother Jerald Tolden. Charles is survived by his children Bernice Tolden, Charles Tolden Jr., and Myosha Dickey; brothers Norman Tolden, Earl Tolden, Jimmy Tolden, Marvin Tolden, and Albert Tolden; and a sister Gloria Tolden; ex-wife Ranee Rollins Tolden, special friend Sharon Thigpen; numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law; cousins and friends. Stevens passed away peacefully on October 16, 2010 surrounded by her family. Mrs. Stevens was courageous, very loving, devoted wife, dedicated mother, grandmother and strong woman who believed in the power of prayer. On March 25, 1928, she was born to her parents the late Elijah Williams and Martha Jones in Cheneyville, LA. She was adopted and raised by her loving mother, the late Mary Elizabeth Baker in Louisiana. Mrs. Stevens is preceded in death by two sons, James Stevens and Jessie Stevens Jr., and son-in-law Charles Johnson. Mrs. Herron was born August 24, 1925 in St. Louis, MO to Robert & Rebecca Seals. She moved to Galveston, and worked in Public Health for many years and retired from plastic surgery at UTMB Hospital after 33 years. She was a faithful member of Jerusalem Baptist Church until her health failed. Mrs. Herron was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Bessie Singleton, Agnes Porter and Annie Williams; sons James "Smiley" Herron, and Edward "Mug" Herron; daughter Yvonne Terry; great grandson Norris Blake Gaines Jr.; and Godsons Roosevelt Hollis Jr. & Noah McMurrin. She was active and out going in the music industry. She loved singing, dancing and rapping. Through "Variety Entertainment" she was instrumental in helping youth obtain their growth in the music industry. Alichia at the age of 38, answered the call of her Heavenly Father on Sunday, August 1, 2010 at Mainland Center Hospital. Alichia accepted Christ at an early age. She attended public school in Texas City ISD, moved to Galveston, TX and later returned to the Mainland. Gerald Allen Green Jr. 1986-2010 Gerald Allen Green Jr. was born on December 31, 1986 to Gerald Allen Green Sr. and Pamela Lewis-Green. He departed this life on April 13. 2010 at John Sealy Emergency Room. Gerald was the third of five siblings. As being the middle child and (once the youngest for almost ten years) he grew to be so warm and considerate. Gerald's loving smile and curt disposition was loved by many. Gerald went to school initially in the Galveston Independent School District, then later on in the Texas City and LaMarque District. He earned his GED at Gulf Coast Trade Center in New Waverly, Texas. He began working for BP at the tender age of eighteen. Here he came to love, and nurture many great friendships. Gerald dearly loved working for BP, and his co-workers and looked forward to returning even before his death. Gerald was preceded in death by both of his grandfathers, (maternal) Lawrence E. Arturo "Turo" Lopez 1956-2010 Arturo "Turo" Lopez, 56, of Galveston, TX passed away at his home with his loving wife by his side on Sunday, April 4, 2010 in Texas City, TX. Turo was a life long resident of Galveston and graduated from Ball High School in 1973. He was also an alter boy at Sacred Heart Church. He was a member of the Texas Army National Guard for 22 years and retired as a sergeant. Turo was a devoted Dallas Cowboys Fan and enjoyed going to see them. Mary L. Guerry 1936-2010 Mary L. Guerry, was born in Lafayette, Alabama to the late Mary and Jessie Bonner on January 30, 1936. She was educated in Lafayette County private school system. She later moved to Kentucky and worked as a Medical Assistant at Fort Knox hospital. In 1953 she met and married the late Raymond Smith. From this union was born four children. Mary settled in Columbus after numerous years of traveling with her military husband in the mid 60's. Mary and Raymond divorced in the early 70's. Mary completed her Nursing education and obtained her Registered Nursing license and worked at St. Ann's Hospital as a Charge Nurse. While working at St. Ann's she met and later married the late Will Guerry in 1976. Aside from her nursing career, she loved to bake. Mary was famous for her pound cake as well as her red velvet cake. Mary loved fishing and sewing. After the death of her husband Bill, she moved to Texas to live with her daughter Lorraine. After a brief illness, Mary left this earthly home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 18, 2010. Bobby McGaskey "BJ" 1934-2010 On February 24, 1934 in Fisher, LA Bobby J. McGaskey was born to the late Allen and Rachel McGaskey. He departed this earthly life January 20, 2010. At early age he confessed Christ and was baptized at St. Peter Baptist Church. As a teenager he excelled in sports. He and his brothers loved playing baseball. "BJ" moved to Texas in 1955. "BJ" was preceded in death by his parents, two sons George and Gregory McGaskey, five sisters and three brothers. Through a previous marriage a union of five children were born. He Started Cement Construction Company. McGaskey and Bell Construction excelled in the industry for over 40 years in the Texas City, Galveston Island Area. He was an outstanding business man. He taught many young men the cement finishing protocols, and he was a master of his craft. After retiring in 2000, "BJ" enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved fishing, hunting, dancing and enjoyed playing with children. His other favorite past time was occasional trips to the casino. In 1980, He married Mary Williams Edwards. Estelle Mae Gatson Morgan 1918-2010 Estelle was one of a kind and fought a good fight. She kept the faith and she finished her course. Our dear Estelle was born to the late Enoch and Mary Anne Gatson on April 10, 1918 in Galveston, Texas. Estelle grew up and attended the public schools of Galveston, Texas. At a very young age, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior, joined church, and was baptized. On November 19, 1946, Estelle was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Chester Lee Morgan. She was a loving mother to three sons, Carroll, Alfred, and Melvin. She was a devoted wife and mother who provided loving care, spiritual nourishment, and material comfort to her family. She was a Christian woman whose main desire was to serve God. She would often say, "Lord, let your will be done, not my will." She joined Greater Bell Zion Baptist Church and served faithfully in the Sunday School as a teacher for children. She was also a member of The Heroines of Jericho Chapter 353. Before the Lord called Estelle Morgan home on January 6, 2010, this brave and fearless warrior stood at said junction time and time again and prevailed. Also, before answering God's invitation to join Him, she understood what it meant to be a devout Christian. As a member Greater Bell Zion Baptist Church, she faithfully practiced Christian fellowship and principles, which ultimately led her to form a union of peace, with her Lord. While so many of us here today are saddened by Estelle's departure from Earth, we tend to forget that God deemed her life to be ripe enough to perform the duties that He eventually prepared her for before birth. She leaves behind a distinguished legacy of accomplishments obtained through living a wholesome lifestyle, of which all men and women should aspire. She will forever be loved and truly missed. Estelle was preceded in death by her parents, Enoch and Mary Ann Gatson; brothers, Moses, Harvey, Charles, Joseph, Joshua and Enoch Gatson; sisters, Willie Gatson Allen and Lottie Ruth Gatson Perry; and son, Alfred "Tootsie" Hackley. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 64 years, Chester Lee Morgan; her sons Carroll B. Hackley (Vivian) of Jacksonville, Florida; and Melvin R. Morgan (Beverly) of Beaumont, Texas; one sister Mrs. Naomie Gatson Gaines of Galveston, Texas; 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and very dear friends. Frankie Armstrong-Miller "Frankie Ray" 1958-2010 Frankie passed away on January 4, 2010 in De Berry, TX at his sister's residence. "Frankie Ray" was born to Bee B. Miller, Sr. and Carrie Armstrong on April 17, 1958 in Shreveport, LA. "Frankie Ray" graduated from Natchitoches Central High School in Louisiana. He was a member of Greater Barbours Chapel Baptist Church and active with the Gulf Coast Mental Health Center in La Marque which we give special thanks. "Frankie Ray" was preceded in death by his mother; grand mother Loretta Bell; brothers Bee Miller, Jr., Maurice Tipton, and Kenneth Hawkins. "Frankie Ray" leaves to cherish his memory father Bee B. Miller Sr. and step-mother Rose Miller; sisters Aldonia (Ron) Battle, Velma Bumpers-Miller, and Betty Stevenson; brothers Richard (Sharon) Jackson, Wayne Miller, Michael (La'Toria) Miller, RD Anthony, and Terry Miller and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.
