Ann Hawkins 1960-2013 Ann P. Hawkins was born October 7, 1960 in Galveston, Texas. She passed away November 15, 2013, in Texas City. She leaves behind to cherish her memories her daughter Leacardele Hawkins, granddaughter, Le Jevnie, sisters; Thelma, Mary, and Dorothy, brothers; Andrew Hawkins (Ann), Walter Hawkins(Brenda), Charles Hawkins (Annet), Robert Hawkins, and Dwight Hawkins, and step-children, Threase (Kevin), Jean (Paula), and Eddie, Jr. (Alice), as well as other relatives and friends. A memorial visitation will be held from 3PM until 5PM, Saturday, November 23, 2013, at Bay Area Funeral Parlor, 5410 FM 1765, Texas City, Texas 77591. Cora Elizabeth "Bummie" Burnside 1933-2013 Cora Elizabeth "Bummie" Burnside departed this life on November 18, 2013. Bummie was born to the late Ester Lee and Theodoshia (Deyon) Jacobs on August 29, 1933 in Lake Charles, Lousiana. Bummie was a family person, and she was always on the go. She loved shopping at the flea market, playing cards, and going to the casinos. She was preceeded in death by her grandparents; Alex and Cora Deyon, and Houston and Elizabeth Jacobs. Surviving to cherish her memories are her son, Vernon Guillory, her sisters; Bonnie Davis, Betty Watts (Robert), and Eva Mae Warner, and a host of nephews, great neices and nephews, as well as other relatives and friends. Calvin Earl Phillips 1953-2013 On Saturday, October 19, 2013, Calvin Earl Phillips, Sr., bid farewell to those he loved so dear. Calvin was born November 25, 1953 to the late Reverend Zephaniah Phillips and James Anna Dobbins Phillips. He is a 1972 graduate of La Marque High School and served in the United States Air Force. Being reared in a Christian home, Calvin accepted Christ at an early age and united with Greater Bell Zion Baptist Church in Texas City, Texas. Calvin is preceded in death by his father, Reverend Dr. Zephaniah Phillips; brother, Dennis Phillips; and grandson, Ka Marion Phillips. Calvin leaves a legacy of love and devotion in the hearts of his loving son, Calvin Earl Phillips, Jr.; brothers, Alvin Phillips, Sr., Danny (Deborah) Phillips, Sr., Anthony Phillips, Sr., and Dalwenda "D.D." Memorials may be sent to the Funeral Home. Tommie Earl Williams 1928-2013 Tommie Earl Williams was born September 15, 1928 in Jacksonville, Texas to Mattie Mae Gamble and Albert Williams. He attended school in Jacksonville, and later graduated from Jacksonville High School. Tommie eventually found his way to Galveston County, Texas where he resided until he passed. Tommie was a long time employee of Uneeda Laundry from where he eventually retired. Tommie passed away at home October 17, 2013 in Texas City, Texas. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Mattie Mae Gamble and Albert Williams. He is survived by his son, Freddie L. Williams (Lashona), his brothers; Bennie Gamble, Lindsey Gamble, Timothy Gamble (Vickie), George Gamble (DeeDee), and Danny Gamble (Evon), his sisters; Tottie Pharms, Lorraine Gamble, Mary Matthews (Clark), and Sophie Gamble, Granddaughter, Shamarrion Williams, Great Grandchildren; Jayla, Gary, and Keshawn, and many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. He will be missed by all. Charles Anthony Brown, Sr. 1960-2013 Charles Anthony Brown was born September 16, 1960 in Clarksdale Mississippi to the late Gotrea & Minnie Brown. Charlie was educated in Clarksdale Public Schools and was a graduate of Aggie High School. He furthered his education by attending Coahoma Junior College and later served in the U.S. Air Force. He was baptized at a early age at Calvary Baptist Church in Clarksdale Mississippi, and came to be a strong believer in Christ. He relocated to Texas and united with the Jerusalem Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor A.S. Johnson. In February 2005 he and his family united with the Gospel Temple COGIC under the leadership of the late Superintendent Freddie Doughty, Sr. Under his leadership Bro. Charles Brown trained to become a deacon. While in college, Charles Anthony Brown met and fell in love with Barbara Ann Price. On April 12, 1997 they were united in marriage. He loved to cook and dress and plant in his garden. Charles worked in the Engineering Department at the San Luis Hotel, for the City of La Marque for several years, and later worked for the City of Galveston for many years. He did his dialysis at work on his lunch break, then returned back to work on calls. He was a man of strong character and believed with God all things are possible. On Friday September 13, 2013, after a long illness, the Lord whispered to Deacon Charles Brown, "I know you are tired. Come and rest." He fell asleep in the sweet arms of Jesus. He was preceded in death by his parents Gotrea and Minnie Brown and two brothers Pastor Gotrea Brown and Stanley Hawthorne. Donnie Joe Coke 1965-2013 Donnie Joe Coke, 47, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 5, 2013. Donnie was born on December 16, 1965 to Billy and Glenda Coke in Helena, Arkansas. Donnie graduated from Dickinson High School in 1983. He was a chef by nature and loved to cook and loved to just sit back and watch people enjoy eating his food, especially his potato salad. He would bet money against anyone that his potato salad was better than theirs...and it was. Donnie is preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Glenda Coke and nephew Steven Ray Coffman. Donnie is survived by his wife, Rose Coke; daughters, Ashley Synatzske and husband Michael, of League City and Victoria Coke of Austin; Step-son Sean Kelly of Dickinson; brother Michael Coke of Dickinson; and sisters Traci Whitt and Debbie Dunlap of Arkansas; his nephews Jamie Whitt of Arkansas and Cody Martin of Mississippi; and nieces Myranda Coffman, Jennifer Martin, Christy Webb all of Arkansas and Corinthiann St. Andry of Houston. Donnie also had a very special brother-in-law, David St. Andry of Houston; and wonderful in-laws Mary St. Andry and John Troquille of Bellaire. Donnie also had a best friend for many, many years, Jeff Johnson of Cedar Creek. Donnie loved his family dearly and will be greatly missed. May we keep Donnie forever in our hearts as we celebrate his memory today and everyday. It was Donnie's wishes to be cremated. There will be a memorial Sunday, Sept 15, 1-4pm at the Bay Area Club in League City, 2111 Webster St. Donnie had recently renewed his faith and accepted Jesus Christ into his heart. Almeta McGregor 1920-2013 Almeta McGregor, 92, passed away to eternity peacefully in her home with love ones by her side during the early morning hours of Friday, September 6, 2013. She was born on December 18, 1920 in Caldwell, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. Ollie and Jessie Fisher. She came to Galveston as a young adult and was employed as a Cook at various restaurants around Galveston, then later, moved into a career with the Galveston Independent School District as a janitor where she later retired. Almeta was a devoted mother who enjoyed cooking, gardening and WWE wrestling. She had an infectious laugh that drew everyone to her. Her church home, while on the Island, was at the Avenue K Church of Christ under the leadership of Brother Marv Thorn. Preceding Almeta in death were her parents: Ollie and Jessie Fisher, and, daughters: Jessie Mae Armstrong and Marlene Johnson. Surving to cherish her memories are her son, John Earl McGregor, Jr., daughter, Mary J. Fisher, grand-daughter, Geraldine Johnson, numerous great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends. She will be missed by all. Charity Beatrice Boulet 1941-2013 Charity Beatrice Boulet was born August 30, 1941 in Galveston, Texas. She was a faithful member of Compton Memorial Church of God in Christ where she was a member of the senior choir and the women's chorus. Charity graduated from Central High School Class of '59 and attended Franklin Beauty School where she obtained her beautician's license. Charity passed away August 31, 2013, in Webster, Texas. Charity was preceeded in death by her parents; Jessie and Laura Dickison, son, Edwin Dickison, grandson, Edwin Dickison, Jr., and brothers, James Davis, and Jimmy Dickison, Sr. Surviving to cherish her precious memories are her daughter, Rhonda Williams, her sisters, Vandella Dorsey and Elizabeth Dockery (George) of Houston, brother, John Dickison, granddaughters, Madison, Edbrieal, Macayla and Rhonda, God- Daughter, Pamela Hennigan (James), her church family at Compton Memorial Church Family, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a lifelong resident of Texas City until he was called home to the lord on August 11, 2013. Anyone who knew Marvin understood that he loved the game of basketball. Marvin began his basketball career by playing for the Levi Fry Dragons, where he assisted them in winning the State's championship. In high school, Marvin played basketball for the Texas City Stingarees, where he was known for his impressive ball handling skills. In 1972, Marvin graduated from Texas City High School earning a scholarship to college based on excellent academics and athletics. He continued his education atPrairie View A & M University, and later Marvin transferred to Waylan BaptistUniversity. Marvin will always be remembered as being a pioneer of his time. After college, Marvin served his country by joining the United State Navy, obtaining an honorable discharge. Marvin was survived by his loving spouse of 33 years, Janice Tolden. Marvin was the proud father of 6 children: Yolanda Smith, Andrew Smith, Monica Tolden (Ronald Brinkley Sr.), Marvin Tolden Jr. (Roylisha Tolden), Matrese Tolden, and Marlowe Tolden. 13 grandchildren; 1 great grandson and a host of other relatives and friends. Marvin was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Tolden, and his brothers Jerald Tolden, and Charles Tolden. His surviving siblings include: Gloria Tolden, Jimmie Tolden, Norman Tolden, Albert Tolden, and Earl Tolden. Letha Frank-Holloway 1937-2013 Mrs. Letha Frank- Holloway, was born on August 7, 1937, in Welch,Louisiana to the late Sidney and Nola Prevost Frank. She attended school in Jennings, Louisiana, and later Booker T. Washington High School in Texas City. Letha went home to be with the Lord, August 18, 2013 at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness. Letha work for the Farmers and Sharp families in Galveston for may years, and later in life she also worked for the U.S. Postal Services, and UTMB before she retired. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Felix Holloway, her parents, Sidney Frank and Nola Prevost Henny, son; Kenneth Frank, and Felix Frank, sister, Donna Locklin and brother, Ronald Frank. Surviving to cherish her memories are her seven children; Karen Frank (Bob), Tommye Frank, Sr. (Carolyn), Karl Frank (Sheila), Lillie Frank, Betty Frank, and Rochelle Simmons (Michael) of Texas City, and Paul Frank of Arizona, brothers, Larry Frank, Sidney Frank, Jr., and Lawrence Frank of Jennings, LA, sister, Ann Frank of Arkansas, and Addelia Frank and Leola Harvey of Texas City, sister-in-laws, Emma Thompson (Clifford) of Galveston, Ada Captain of Houston, and Dorothy Hardy of Texas City, as well as 18 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and many friends. Etta Mae Tucker 1937-2013 Etta Mae Tucker, "Plunnie" was born in Old Washington, TX to James Lott, Sr. and Willie Lee and Lula Mae Rodgers Watkins. She lived and raised her family in the Texas City La Marque area. She was known for "cooking just what you wanted to eat and cooking it just right; then she would throw that million dollar smile on you." Everyone will always remember Miss Plunnie in a special way. Beasley 68 of Texas City, TX left this life on Wednesday August 14, 2013 at his residence with his loving sisters at his bedside. James was born June 30, 1945 to Lillie M. Allen and Walter Beasley in New Orleans,LA. He lived with his family in Texas City where he graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and worked as a laborer. He was baptized at an early age and was a member of Mount Paran Missionary Baptist Church. James is preceded in death by his parents and grandmother. Richard Ornelas 1957-2013 Richard Juan Ornelas, Jr, born March 14, 1957 in Texas City, Texas to Dominga and Richard Ornelas, passed way in San Marcos, Texas on August 3, 2013. Richard was a free spirit, he never met a stranger, and he left everyone with a smile on their face. His positive outlook in life found the good in every one. He was a wonderful, son, father, and Grandpa. Richard would give his time generously to his family, and he enjoyed learning and exploring his spiritual culture to share with others. Richard's father Richard A. Ornelas, Sr. proceeded him in death. Surviving to cherish is memories are his mother, Dominga Ornelas, his son Richard J. Memorials can be sent to the Funeral Home. Jason Thomas Whetstein 1982-2013 Jason Thomas Whetstein, 30, of Dickinson passed away on May 9, 2013. Jason was born on November 3, 1982 to Nancy King Whetstein and Bruce Whetstein. Jason grew up in the Galveston County area and was a skilled tradesman who worked in the construction industry. Jason worked many years for Mike Ziegler at Coastal Building & Remodeling. Jason loved to make people laugh and reminisce. Jason loved his family and friends, would do anything for them, and would give you the shirt off of his back when he actually had one on. There will be a viewing and service held for Jason at Bay Area Funeral Parlor. Viewing will start 2:00pm for family and will continue at 4:00pm for friends.
