"Temple" Obituary (1941 - 2023)

At the age of 81 passed away peacefully with a smile on her face, on Saturday May 18th at Mainland Center Hospital after a six-year battle with health issues. Her birth name was Aloneia but went by her middle name and as we all know her as "Temple" was born on December 21, 1941 in Bedias, TX the third child out of eight kids to Odell and Maggie West. The family later moved to the Galveston area to start a new journey in life and where Temple started her own family. She raised seven children of her own: Sophena (daughter), Calvin (son), D'Andra (daughter), Julius (son), Herbert Troy (son), Lenora (daughter) and Jayson (son). She was employed in the home health care field most of her adult working life taking care of the elderly. Temple was happily married to Onezime "Junior" Gobert for 18 years. At the time of her passing, he had six children of his own that he brought into the marriage: Kevin (wife, Stephanie), JoLynn, Pamela, Onezime, Jr., Weston and Angela. "Temple" is survived by her husband; her six children; her six stepchildren; their combined 25 grandkids and 24 great-grandkids; three sisters, Sybil, Bernnia and Lois; half-sister, Patricia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a lot of friends. Besides spending lots of time with her family and loved ones, "Temple" enjoyed sitting up in her recliner watching old western movies, wrestling and game shows (along with other shows). Alongside her watching was her "furbaby" dog, Jodie. He was just like another son of hers. Every time one of her kids would call or come by she always said, "Jodie, your brother/sister is on the phone or coming in" and he would get so excited. "Temple" had touched so many lives with her loving heart and passion for life. She was the matriarch of the Odell West family. She will be truly missed and treasured in our memories and in our thoughts. "Temple" is preceded in death by her parents, Odell and Maggie; her siblings, El Verne, Troy Vernon, James and Ola and half-brother, Lamera and nephew, Herbert Troy. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life gathering on Saturday May 27, 2023 at the chapel of Bay Area Funeral Directors at 5410 FM 1765 (facing Hwy 3) in Texas City, Texas 77591. The visitation starts at 9:00 a.m. followed by the celebration at 11:00 a.m.
