Burena Katherine Jenkins 72, lived in Texas City, Texas passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2023. Burena was born in Houston, Texas at Jefferson Davis Hospital on August 18, 1950. She worked at Houston ISD for 7 years, also worked at Galveston ISD for 5 years, also worked at Taco Cabana for 11 years. Retired in 2014 from GISD and Taco Cabana. Burena is preceded in death by her parents Eleanor and George Western, Grandparents, and brother George Western. Survivors include her spouse O.D. Hawkins, sisters and brother Eleanor Western-Dues, Burnetta James, Tony Western, and Donna Western,; children, Patricia Western, LaTonya Davis, Dashiki and husband Tre Gipson, Odis Jenkins, Mercury Hawkins, Bessie Hawkins, Kimberly and husband Alfred Gipson Jr., O.D. Hawkins Jr., and Devin and wife Erika Hawkins. She has 10 grandchildren Paul Western, Stefan Western, Nicholas Simpson, Tashanna Davis, Reniya Jones, Devin Hawkins Jr, Aaliyah Hawkins, Derek Hawkins, Avante Gipson, Zariah Hawkins and also has 3 extended grandchildren by marriage. Also many nieces and nephews. She was a loving mother, wife, sister and grandmother. She will be deeply missed by everyone that loved her. I hear you when you're laughing, and watch you as you sleep. I even place my arms around you to calm you as you weep. I see you wish the days away, begging to have me home. So I try to send you signs so you know you are not alone. Don't feel guilty that you have life that was denied to me. Heaven is truly beautiful, just you wait and see. So live your life, laugh again, enjoy yourself, be free. Then I know with every breath you take, You'll be taking one for me.
