Joe Eugene Ferguson

–

Texas City, TX

Joe Eugene Ferguson, 72, of Texas City, TX passed away peacefully in his home on the morning of Sunday, March 19, 2023. Joe was born on April 21, 1950 in Enid, OK to parents Raymond and Jeanie Ferguson. Joe married the love of his life, Kathy Diehl, on February 29, 1980 and just celebrated their 43rd anniversary. Joe was the father of three children, Joe E. "Joey", II, Kathy Jo and Jeremy.

Joe worked as a carpet layer, where he had a reputation for excellent workmanship and was known as a patient trainer and a skilled and admired co-worker. He had many hobbies ranging from playing video games to hunting to barbecue cookoffs to golfing and of course, throwing darts. Joe was a competitive dart player. He had a fierce competitive spirit which was passed down to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed playing in, as well as, organizing dart tournaments at his favorite watering holes. You could bet that he would be there in his Hawaiian shirt (or pearl-snap, for the dressier occasions), white ostrich skin boots, drinking a Coors Banquet, with (up until a few years ago) a Winchester little cigar within reach...two things he enjoyed, not only because he liked them, but arguably more so because no one would ever bum a Coors or a Winchester. Joe was one of the most laid-back people you could ever meet. Especially when even the best-laid plans had to change at the last minute, Joe was always quick to respond with a shrug of his shoulders, a grinnish smirk and an accepting "Ok." This was pretty much the same reaction for every change of every situation he encountered.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Martha, and his brothers-in-law, Walt Needham and Al Presley.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; his sons, Joey and Jeremy; daughter, Kathy Jo Weatherly (husband, Corey); grandchildren, Jordan, Blake, Wade, Riley, Kailyn, Tucker and Slade; sisters, Dixie Murrey and Dottie Needham; brothers, Raymond Ferguson, Jr. (wife, Sue) and Ricky Ferguson; sister-in-law Robbie Presley; brother-in-law, Kevin Hardy (wife, Sabine) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Joe was a loving man in every way...son, brother, father, grandfather, father-in-law and uncle especially to his super-most favorite person in the world, his son-in-law, Corey. He loved family and loved being around them, enjoying some oldies "Rock and Roll!" from his Millennium Falcon speaker, sitting in his shady spot in the backyard with Kathy, waiting on the grilling to get done. His mellow way, his blanket acceptance and his perseverance through all of life's curve balls are traits we can all learn from. He will always remain in our thoughts. He was loved and adored by so many and will be missed by all.

A celebration of Joe's life will be held at the First Church of God located at 2209 29th Street North in Texas City on Friday, March 31, 2023. The visitation will begin at noon with the service to follow at 1:00 p.m.. Johnny Angel will serve as the officiant. All floral deliveries will be received at the church after 10:00 a.m. on the day of the service.

A benefit in honor of Joe is planned for April 29th at Diamond Jim's Country Saloon located at 3317 25th Avenue North in Texas City.
