Thelma Delores Justice

–

Texas City, TX

On November 22, 1930, a precious baby girl was born to Lymus, Jr. and Prudie Scurry Hayes in Old Washington County, Texas. Her parents named her Thelma.
At the early age of eight, Thelma's family moved to Galveston, TX, where she dedicated her life to Christ and was baptized at Live Oak Missionary Baptist Church. Later, she served on the usher board. She also served as president of the Pastor's Aide Committee. Thelma understood the importance of a relationship with God and moved her membership to Hopewell Baptist Church in Texas City, TX. Her love for God was truly displayed in her actions and her willingness to help anyone in need.
Thelma enrolled in the Galveston public school district and graduated from Old Central High School, as a midterm graduate (January) class of 1948. Later that year, she entered a union of marriage with her high school sweetheart, Robert Earl Justice, who preceded her in death on June 11, 2003. God blessed their union with five beautiful children: Jeanne, Pee Wee, Pokie, Pops and Denise.
Thelma strongly believed that knowledge is power. Therefore, she was always on a quest to better herself. Nurses touch the lives of many. After working at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston as a nurse's aide, she enrolled in the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) program at Galveston County Hospital and received her LVN certification in 1965. She served her entire life working in the medical field to always be a servant to those in physical and spiritual need. The number of lives she touched and people she helped are innumerable. The life she led is one that anyone aspires to live.
On July 21, 2017, God called Thelma's name and she answered. She departed this life at Mainland Medical Center to meet her Heavenly Father. There to greet her was her husband, Robert E. Justice; her parents, Lymus Jr. (Sweet Man) and Prudie (Sweet); her six siblings, Luella Marie (Pete), Edward (Buddy Boy), Arthur Mae (Lil Sista), Melvin (Doc), Vera Lee (Nay) and Dorothy Mae (Big Sista).
Thelma leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Delores Justice Knotts, Joyce Justice Wilson, Joan Marie Justice, Tyronne Curtis Justice and Denise Justice; granddaughters, Kenya Simmons (Alan) and Erika Seriale (Vernice, Jr.) and six great-grandchildren (rugrats) that she truly loved and said she was happy and wonderfully blessed to live and see them in her twilight years. She also leaves to mourn two brothers-in-law, Richard Jefferson of Houston, TX and Robert Caldwell of Galveston, TX, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.
There will be a public visitation on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a service to celebrate her life at 11:00 a.m. Both events will be held at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church at 316 South Pine Road, Texas City, TX 77591. 409-938-0173. Services are entrusted to Bay Area Funeral Directors located at 5410 FM 1765 (off Highway 3), Texas City, TX 77591. 409-933-4300. Memorials can be sent to the funeral home.
