Walter E. Simms Obituary (1936 - 2023)

Walter E. Simms, 87, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at his residence. He is the husband of Adolpheus C. Simms. They shared 62 years of marriage together. Walter was born in Cuero, Texas to Joe Simms and Louise Friar. He attended Lincoln High School. He was a member of the football and track teams and graduated in 1956. He held many jobs over the years but was a long-time employee of Standard Auto Parts in Galveston, Texas before his health issues. Walter enjoyed playing dominoes and chess, dancing, watching "BBQ Pit Masters" on television, sitting outside drinking his Bud Ice and driving around town in the car going 2 miles per hour. He was known for his fried turkeys, riblets and his mouth-watering briskets and ribs. Walter is survived by his wife, Adolpheus C. Simms; daughters, Nicole Simms, Vickie Andrews and Sheryl Thompson; grandchildren, ShaShonni Andrews-Leonard and Herman Thompson III. Walter was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023. Visitation will start at 2:00 p.m. followed by a celebration of his life at 3:30 p.m. Both events will take place at the chapel of Bay Area Funeral Directors located at 5410 FM 1765 (facing Highway 3) in Texas City. Interment will be at Rising Star Cemetery immediately following the celebration.
